When I first talked to Hilda & Vincent I could tell they were going to throw an amazing party. And as you can see from the pictures, they didn't disappoint. Hilda & her family are originally from Panama, and Vincent & his family are from Bermuda (and since Vincent went to university in Canada, I'm also going to adopt him as a fellow Canadian). This was the first time I photographed an all-white-attire wedding, meaning everyone wore white from top to bottom. It was super cool! These two are so into each other and there's so much love among their friends and family. I felt lucky to be a part of their day. Hilda & Vincent - a huge congratulations (and also congratulations for the little one on the way!).

ERIN & TODD'S DESTINATION WEDDING IN SAN FRANCISCO

I've been chomping at the bit to share some pictures from Erin & Todd's fabulous wedding in beautiful San Francisco. These two are so incredibly gracious and you can see their love and happiness the minute you meet them. Plus, they were so photogenic that I was pinching myself all day.After looking into destination wedding locations in Cabo or the wine country, they decided on San Francisco since Erin grew up in the Bay area. The Clift Hotel served as a backdrop for their wedding events and the lighting and feel of the hotel was unlike anything I'd seen before. As you can see from the photos, both of their families were so friendly and knew how to party up a storm. While we did spend a little bit of time doing some portraits between the ceremony & reception, we also went out after the celebration was over to take advantage of Union Square at night. How cool is that?

I have to send out a thank you to Sarah & Adam for recommending me. Adam met Erin on a plane, showed his wedding photos and she got in touch. I am so grateful to work with such awesome people. Erin & Todd, I wish you a huge congratulations!

TRACY & GREG'S WEDDING IN VICTORIA, BC

I came home gushing about Tracy & Greg's beautiful wedding at The Latch in Sidney, BC. The entire wedding had a retro, vintage feel and I loved all the extra special details, like Tracy's bouquet made out of old broaches. The dress belonged to Tracy's mother (the first time I've ever seen a bride wear her mother's wedding gown). I thought it looked absolutely fabulous. After a fairly rainy summer in Victoria, they were grateful for one of the warmest, sunniest days of the year. The staff at the Latch took great care of everyone and it was a perfect venue for the celebration. Tracy & Greg, a huge congratulations!

AMBER & JASON'S WEDDING AT THE PARKSIDE RESORT & SPA, VICTORIA, BC

Amber & Jason had an absolutely breathtaking wedding, set on a rooftop patio overlooking the city at sunset. Amber disarms you with her sweet-natured personality and Jason is the one who gets the party going. As you can tell by the photos, these two were extremely photogenic and they allowed lots of room for experimenting. We even went around for some extra night-time portraits around the resort after the reception, which meant they could spend more time with their guests. I had such a great time getting to know Amber & Jason, plus everyone at the wedding. I wish them all the best in their new life together.

Victoria & Eric's Extraordinary Wedding in Antigua, Guatemala

Antigua, Guatemala is a place that can only be described as magical. As a UNESCO heritage site, it remains almost exactly as it originally looked when it was Spain's capital of Central America in the 1500-1700s. Victoria & Eric fell in love with this amazing city while visiting from New York and knew it would make a perfect backdrop for their destination wedding. They treated their 100 guests to an extraordinary celebration that included thousands of red roses and candles (2,000 during the ceremony alone). I can't speak highly enough of Gladys and her fabulous team at Saguzo Eventos (if you're getting married in Guatemala you HAVE to use the Saguzo team to coordinate your wedding!). Victoria & Eric were incredibly nice and so easy to work with. This wedding was one of my highlights of the year!

LAURA & KEVIN'S FABULOUS VICTORIA, BC WEDDING

In September I had the pleasure of being one of the photographers for my friend, and fabulous photographer, Laura Taylor's wedding to her amazing groom Kevin. I never turn down an opportunity to work with one of my best friends, Eunice Montenegro. Eunice & I used to co-own FunkyTown together before she moved to the east coast and Laura used to be one of the photographers with our studio. We all went to the Western Academy of Photography together so there were lots of other photographer friends at the wedding. Laura & Kevin have a beautiful three-year-old daughter, Paige, and she was the life of the entire party. We had so much fun at this wedding it was an extra special treat to be a guest as well as a photographer. Laura & Kevin, a huge congratulations! You are beautiful!

Kelly & Jason's Wedding at Hatley Castle in Victoria, British Columbia

Wedding Photography in Victoria by Christina Craft and Nichole Taylor

Kelly & Jason had a wedding that can only be called magical! I loved that they were married at the phenominally gorgeous Hatley Castle in Victoria, BC and every detail was perfection. Kelly & Jason have such a fun goofy side combined with a genuinely deep love for each other. Jason had tears in his eyes when Kelly walked down the aisle and when he said his vows... and then it was Kelly's turn... (and then my turn because I can't help but get verklempt during emotional vows). Kelly made most of the decorations and grew her own flowers for the table settings. When we were walking around the grounds she knew everything about the gardens, which made doing photos around Hatley Castle especially cool! In terms of photography, the conditions couldn't have been more perfect. They had the ceremony at 4pm, which meant the light was lower in the sky (an ideal time for photos since there were no unflattering shadows under anyone's eyes) and they even did their first dance right as the sun went down over the horizon (amazing!). Kelly & Jason, you are both rock stars and I wish you all the happiness in the world!

You'll have to forgive some gushing with this post... I can't express enough how much I truly enjoy my job, and especially when I get to work with an awesome couple like Allie & Kryzysztof. In all my experience I have never seen a wedding so well paced. They did all of the portraits before the ceremony (including family portraits) which meant they could spend 100% of their time after their vows with their guests. This was especially important since almost all of their wedding guests were from out of town. There were people from almost every province in Canada, plus some travelers who came from the UK and Poland! There is a lot of love in both of their families and everyone at the wedding was so friendly, warm and genuinely cool! Allie & Krys have the most easy-going personalities and I loved that they were both so emotional with each other. Allie & Krys, a huge congratulations!!

DENISE & DAN'S WEDDING AT THE MATACHICA, AMBERGIS CAYE, BELIZE

I have so much to say about Denise & Dan's wedding in beautiful Belize. Although they hadn't met yet, they were seated side-by-side on a hill with their fellow frosh classmates for the Emily Carr University yearbook photo. After they fell in love they looked back at the photo and couldn't believe their eyes. Fast forward to 2011 at the Matachica in Belize, surrounded by their closest family and friends. Beaming doesn't even come close to describing how happy everyone was to be a part of their day. In the days leading up to the ceremony it had been storming so hard that my own door sounded like someone was banging on it all night. But, on the day of the wedding the wind died down and the sun appeared. I'm so happy that they had the perfect wedding. They are currently on a huge adventure backpacking through Central America for their honeymoon (people after my own heart) and I was thrilled to hear such nice words after they saw their sneak peek slideshow (which they viewed from Lake Atilan, Guatemala): "Christina this is beautiful! We are over the moon! Thank you so so much for taking the most moving photos I have ever seen. I honestly cannot thank you enough. I am very excited to view it all on a better monitor than I have right now. This is so great." Yaay! Denise & Dan thank you for including me in your awesome celebration.

Paula & Alexander's Wedding in Victoria British Columbia

I am so impressed by Paula & Alexander's elegant wedding, which was organized in just under one month. They exchanged vows while surrounded by their closest family and friends in front of a three-storey picture window overlooking the pounding surf - such perfection! Although it was raining quite a bit, but they were great sports and allowed lots of time for outdoor pictures before the sky turned dark. I love how the raindrops almost look like snow flakes. Beatriz & Sam organized their entire wedding while living in France. Her family is originally from Brazil and, since Beatriz & Sam have traveled and lived all over the world, most of the guests were from far-reaching international destinations. I was able to shoot this wedding with Eunice (who is from Brazil - a special treat for her to speak Portuguese with guests) and we loved that Beatriz & Sam had so much trust in us. During the portrait session Eunice shot mostly natural light and I shot mostly off-camera flash. The results were so different from both of our cameras. We had such a blast at this wedding and went completely snap happy. Thank you Beatriz & Sam for letting us experiment so much and for being such rock stars. We loved working with you.

Wedding Photography Sunshine Coast

Alison & Steve's Wedding at the West Coast Wilderness Lodge - Sunshine Coast BC

Alison & Steve had a truly a coast-to-coast wedding since Steve & his family are from Newfoundland and Alison and her family are from the west coast. Steve is a total ham (in the best possible way) and he had me in stitches the entire day, meanwhile Alison has this amazing ability to put you at ease the minute you meet her. They are so relaxed and laid back and you just know they are going to make amazing parents. Their ceremony was set in one of the most beautiful natural places I've ever seen - the West Coast Wilderness Lodge in Edgmont, BC. The Sunshine Coast lived up to its reputation of having the best weather in the country and we had a wonderful, sunny day for the ceremony. The lodge is inaccessible by roads (I myself took two ferries) and it's worth the effort since it's so private and serene -- I even woke up the morning of the wedding to watch two eagles flying over head. The renowned event coordinators Lotus Events from Vancouver planned the day, which meant Alison & Steve could chill and spend quality time with their friends and family without fretting about details. We had dinner as the sun was setting in front of a gigantic picture window followed by a crazy-fun party. Everyone stayed on the dance floor throughout the night singing and dancing to some great tunes from a live band. I had a huge ear-to-ear grin looking through the photos to create the slideshow and blog post because I had so much fun photographing this wedding. Alison & Steve - a huge congratulations on your wedding and your baby-to-be!

Cancun Mexico Wedding Photography

Sarah & Adam's Wedding at The Royal in Cancun, Mexico

Sarah & Adam are people who like to have fun and their beach wedding in Mexico was all that and more. I think the slideshow and photos best speak for the kind of party they had - a total blast and a treat to photograph! The DJ brought along all kinds of party favors and everyone got into character on the dance floor. We spent some time doing portraits on the beach after the ceremony just as the sun was setting and the sky turned into a magestic blue (incredible!)... and the next day we headed to the Playa del Carmen area for a trash the dress session in some of the lagoons. These two made me feel like one of the gang and I can't thank them enough for such a great time. Congratulations Sarah & Adam!

Stephanie & Michael had an event that can only be called extraordinary. Every detail and moment was absolutely perfect. Stephanie dreamed of her wedding at one of the most incredible hotels in the world when she visited there with her mother as a child. Fast forward to 2011 when she met the man of her dreams who swept her off her feet. Stephanie is a personal trainer and Michael is a body builder so their common interest in fitness meant the sparks flew right away. Stephanie & Michael had emotional vows and speeches as well and there wasn't a dry eye in the house when they had their ceremony in front of one of the most famous scenery in the country. As mentioned in the bridesmaids' speech for Stephanie, she always had a flare for dressing up and the wedding day was no exception. I loved each of her three wedding dresses, each with their own unique beauty. Stephanie & Michael, Tessa & I had a wonderful time getting to know you and we wish you happy years together.

Since Tessa took some incredible photos I'm dying to share and since this wedding featured so many treats, including a beautiful rehearsal party at Canada's other famous hotel the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, I'm spreading this post into two. :)

Toronto Wedding Photography Park Hyatt

Amy & Edwin's Wedding at the Park Hyatt in Toronto, Ontario

After having such an awesome engagement session with Amy & Edwin this spring I knew they were going to look amazing on their wedding day. Armed with a brilliant pair of Manolo Blaniks, the same hand-stitched antique Chinese wedding gown her mother wore on her own wedding day followed by a change into a made-for-the-runway white gown, Amy was completely mesmerizing. Edwin and the guys were such great sports about all of the hilariously humiliating games they had to play in order to be allowed entry into the girls' house. We escaped a heat wave by grabbing some shade on the grounds of Kings Circle at the University of Toronto, the same campus where Amy & Edwin first met! I really enjoyed teaming up with my friend from photography school, the amazingly talented Josh Fee. Amy & Edwin booked the rooftop of the Park Hyatt for some additional sunset portraits and we were treated to one of the best views in Toronto. Josh and I had a blast photographing everyone and we loved the crazy wild party that ensued. Amy & Ewin, I want to wish you a big congratulations and many warm wishes for your future together.

I'm excited to share a sneak peek from Amanda & Riley's extremely fun wedding in my home town of Barrie, Ontario. This was a party I'm sure will be talked about for years to come (and I love photographing a group that likes to celebrate). Amanda & Riley have such an easy way about them and they're both so photogenic. Riley is someone who loves to goof around and Amanda has this cute smile whenever she is around him. She looked stunning in her wedding dress and I had a great time going out with them for a post-wedding shoot on a day when the sky was crazy moody. It made for some interesting fashion/fine art stuff. A special thank you to Mr. Ben Benvie for partnering up with me for this wedding. We shot our first wedding together almost five years ago to the day (back in Victoria) and it was really awesome catching up with him. His photography never fails to amaze me. Amanda & Riley - you were a treat to work with. Congratulations!

Amanda & Matt's Wedding at the Crane, Barbados

Amanda and I hit it off instantly during our first phone conversation together and I just knew their wedding was going to be an amazing time. This couple has an infectious personality and they went out of their way to make me feel welcome within their close group of family and friends. I was completely charmed by everyone! Amanda and Matt are known for their great taste and all of the details (including a custom-made gown, custom ties designed by the couple and a great pear of shoes) were perfection. Amanda was excited about her veil and we had a blast seeing how high it would blow during our portrait session. We spent some time the day after the wedding doing portraits and taking advantage of some dramatic scenery. I'm sure you can imagine it was a really hot day and Matt obliged standing out in the bright sun in a suit for several hours. I can't speak more highly of both of them. I had such a blast! Amanda & Matt, a HUGE congratulations to you both. I LOVED working with you!

OUR FRIENDS JULIE & ADAM GOT MARRIED!

I was thrilled to team up with my best friend Eunice Montenegro to photograph Julie & Adam's wedding (aka "The Bush Party") in the Kananaskis Mountains of Alberta (around the corner from Banff National Park). Julie & I used to work together at FunkyTown (we even traveled together to New York for a wedding a couple of years ago and teamed up last year in the rockies for a couple of weddings) before she moved to Canmore with her extremely sweet love, Adam. Having their wedding at the Group Campsite was the perfect way to celebrate their relationship since both are avid campers and mountaineers. Eunice & I rented a gigantic RV for the adventure, which was scary to drive but an extremely fun place to make margaritas! Gorgeous Kimmi's Bridal Portrait Session

Kimmi braved the first truly cold fall day of the year for her bridal portrait session. And as the sun started to set it got even colder. But Kimmi - she looked smokin' hot!! You will have to pardon me while I gush about Laura & Sean's wedding on the beautiful and secluded island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands. The second I met anyone from this wedding I was greeted with the warmest welcome you could imagine - with smiles that never stopped. This tight-knit group had four days of celebrations and when I say celebrate, I mean celebrate! I think the pictures speak volumes for the kind of party they had. Laura & Sean are a perfect match and they were downright giddy with happiness. Plus, they were extremely photogenic and easy to work with - a photographer's dream. We spent some time before the wedding taking portraits, which meant they could spend their wedding afternoon and reception enjoying time with their guests. Lily & Mark's Wedding at the Capilano Golf Club in Vancouver - Sneak Peek

You will have to pardon me while I gush like crazy over Lily & Mark and their beautiful wedding at the Capilano Golf Club in Vancouver. This was one of the most fun events I've ever attended with all family members - including grandparents - boogeying into the wee hours of the morning. They had both a western ceremony and a Chinese tea ceremony plus several other events, which meant Lily changed FIVE times, all while looking like she just stepped off the page of a magazine! I brought along my good friend (and one of my favorite photographers) Jenna Shouldice who kicked some serious butt photography-wise and she deserves a great deal of credit for many of the photos in the slideshow. Every once in a while Jenna would gush, "I love these guys" and I had to agree - they were so easy going and good natured, not to mention beautiful inside and out. Lily & Mark, congratulations and we're so happy to have been a part of your day.

Hanh & Kevin's Calgary Alberta Wedding Part 1 - The Preparations & Ceremonies

Throughout my communication with Hanh & Kevin over the last year I was really impressed with how laid back yet extremely organized they were. They told me they are all about eating, drinking and celebrating (which was music to my ears!) and they were absolutely true to their word. This two-day wedding celebration included two tea ceremonies, a church wedding and a wedding banquet to end all wedding banquets. Among all the extraordinary details involved in such a big event - and with 80% of the guests coming from out of town - these two managed to make every converstation and every gesture heart felt. The moment Hanh's family's tea ceremony began I felt myself getting tears stuck in my throat and it was no different the next day with Kevin's family. Hanh's family had a hysterical Vietnamese barter exchange where the boys had to buy their way into the front door. And the party? Well... I think the pictures speak volumes! This time I was able to team up with one of my favorite photography friends, Julie Williams (who now currently lives in Canmore). We were both thrilled that Hanh & Kevin put complete trust in us to create some funky, fashionable and fun portraits all over downtown Calgary. Hanh & Kevin - thank you once again for allowing us to be involved in your day and big congratulations! You are both a blast!

Susan & Ryan must have the best karma in the world - on a day when it snowed through the plains of Alberta, it was sunny and beautiful in the rocky mountain town of Jasper where they had their ceremony. Most of the speakers mentioned that Susan & Ryan were a couple who meshed right from the beginning - and not just with each other, but with their respective families and friends. It was truly a celebration of family and love, and I felt privileged to be able to document their wedding. As you can see from the photos, there were lots of beautiful, emotional moments and I even found myself verklempt on more than one occasion. Susan & Ryan - I wish you a huge congratulations! Thank you for including me in your truly amazing day.

Indrani and Jason's wedding at the Brentwood Bay Lodge was my last wedding of this season and I have to say it was one of the most fun weddings ever. Although it was poring rain all morning we had a little break just for the pictures. We found a farm close to Brentwood Bay to shoot their portraits and that amazing
barn framed thesese two just perfectly. Jason's groomsman had so much energy that we knew right there that the reception would be a great big party. And boy they did know how to party!!! After the first dance the guys performed " Thriller" and it was impressive how they had all the moves. It was pleasure to work with Indrani and Jason - they were such a sweet couple! Thank you guys for including us as part of your day!

Sherry & Matt's Los Cabos, Mexico Wedding

Sherry & Matt had one of the most elegant weddings I've ever seen. Sherry works for the famous shoe designer Roberto Botticelli and he designed a phenominal pair of one-of-a-kind four-inch heels for the wedding. Her dress (and all of the bridesmaids gowns) were custom designed by a fabulous designer named Galina Mihaleva (you have to visit her site - she is amazing!). In honour of Sherry's heritage, the ceremony had lots of Persian touches, including a Persian table for their vows. This celebration was a feast for my eyes and we had a lot of fun going around the resort for photos. I am a sucker for people who like to dance and these guests stayed on the dance floor all night! Sherry & Matt, it was an absolute pleasure to be a part of your day. Congratulations!

Interested in practicing more of your night-time photography skills?

Let's head out to practice shooting with evening ambient light. We'll try *not* using flash if we can get away with it. The FunkyTown shoots are always a ton of fun and you'll have an opportunity to create dramatic images in low light. We'll photograph a model(s) dressed in wedding attire and you can use the images in your portfolio. This is a shoot-only session (no class instruction).

What skills/equipment do you need?

You'll need a DSLR camera with at least a medium-range zoom lens (ie a 24-70mm) and you should know how to control your camera in manual mode. To get the most out of the shoot, I recommend having a camera that can handle shooting at ISO 1000 without causing too much grain/noise (the best cameras are the Canon 5D or above, or the Nikon D700 or above).

Andrea & Kelly's Wedding - Morraine Lake, Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada

While I was in the area to shoot Hanh & Kevin's wedding I was able to help out Julie Williams for Andrea & Kelly's wedding at Morraine Lake in Banff National Park. Julie & I used to team up when we both lived in Victoria so it was a lot of fun to get to work with her again, and twice no less!! It's been a while since I was a second shooter and I had so much fun working with Julie, who let me have some creative freedom. Andrea & Kelly rented a huge limousine bus (one of the neatest limos I've ever seen) to bring everyone from Canmore to Banff National Park for their wedding. It had been raining a lot that week (it even snowed a bit!) but the sun came out in full force on their day. Morraine Lake is one of the most picturesque lakes in Canada's rocky mountains and their ceremony was on a bluff overlooking the scenery. We then spent some time doing portaits in the forest and fields around the lake. Andrea & Kelly were really easy going and nice so it meant the session was a blast. Julie - thanks for bringing me along. Andrea & Kelly - it was so much fun to meet you. Congratulations!

Mike and Becca had probably one of *the* most perfect wedding days you could ever imagine, including phenominal panoramic scenery at the Aerie resort and a gorgeous cloudy sky (great for photos). You may remember Mike & Becca from their engagement photos earlier this year. They wanted lots of photojournalism, which we LOVE to do, and we had a so much fun when it came time for portraits since they were game for anything. This couple was so incredibly nice and we couldn't stop snapping since they were clearly very photogenic. :)

FUNKYTOWN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS ACROSS CANADA

Since the three-day Victoria workshop was so popular I took a look at my calendar for the year and picked a few Sundays (and one Saturday) to host a one-day workshop in the following cities: Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Victoria & Calgary. These workshops are designed for professional or serious amateur photographers who want an intensive boot camp in wedding photography. WORKSHOP NEWS - VICTORIA 3-DAY WORKSHOP MARCH 4-6, 2011

I'm excited to share photos from workshop I hosted last weekend (March 4-6, 2011) at the Executive House in Victoria. We had a high caliber group of photographers visiting from Ontario, Mississippi, and Washington State, not to mention some awesome talent from Vancouver Island. I'm still waiting for permission from a couple of people before posting their photos but I'm expecting to share more soon. Also, in the next few weeks I'll also make a promotional video thanks to footage taken by my good friends Jenna & Tristan (visit http://www.jennaandtristan.com to see their amazing work). 17th in the World - International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers

I woke up this morning and had a pleasant surprise in my inbox! The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (an organization with strict guidelines for membership, only accepting photographers by jury) has posted its rankings for the most recent quarterly contest. Some of my photos received awards and I placed 17th overall, which is pretty exciting considering the high-calibre of photographers in the organization. In the winter contest I placed 4th and in the spring contest I placed 7th so I'm thrilled to continue with a top 20 ranking in the world. A very special thanks to Sherry & Matt, Hanh & Kevin and Kara & Don whose images appear below. I grateful to have such awesome clients! (Thank you also to my fellow photography geek friends who helped me pick which images to enter).

Louisa & Jesse's wedding at Island View Beach - Vancouver Island

Humour was definitely the theme of Louisa & Jesse's celebration. As you can see from the photos, Jesse embraces his inner silly and can make Louisa giggle on whim. They were married at Island View Beach, one of the most beautiful locations in Victoria. A family friend officiated the ceremony and had the crowd doubled over in laughter during the vows. Since Louisa's family has life-long ties to the Saanich Fair, the reception was held where other members of their family have celebrated their own weddings. Although the fair was only last week, the entire place was transformed into a gorgeous wedding venue. Their DJ Cameron from Music Masters had the entire crowd on the dance floor - quite literally at one point during the locomotion - which was a total blast to photograph. Louisa & Jesse, you two were so much fun and I loved being a part of your day.

Lana & Michal's wedding in Victoria, BC

You know the saying, 'love isn't rocket science?' Well... considering Lana & Michal are actual rocket scientists I'm sure they'd beg to differ! They fell in love while studying for their engineering degrees at the University of Victoria (they are now doing graduate studies in aerospace engineering), so it was appropriate that their ceremony was held at the UVic Chapel. They are very close to their families and there were lots of tears throughout the day (it seems I can't escape getting choked up at weddings! LOL). Lana & Michal love the ocean so we took advantage of a perfect day to take some portraits on Dallas Road. The party was at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club and when I say party, I mean party! The dancing began with a tribute to Lana's grandparents (who have been married for 66 years) with their wedding song -- a song they haven't heard in more than 40 years. The play list included one of each guests's favorite tunes, which meant the dance floor was completely packed all night. The staff at the Yacht Club said it was the party of the year for them and I absolutely agree. It was a truly fabulous celebration. Lana & Michal, it was wonderful to get to know you both. Congratulations!

Because of Lana & Michal's height difference (Michal is 6'7" and Lana is 5'4") they used a stool for their first kiss - totally hysterical.

Traci & Skip's Wedding at Saxe Point & The Ward Room in Victoria, BC

Traci & Skip are a couple who are completely in step with each other. You can tell by the way Skip looks at Traci that he absolutely adores her and vice versa. Their wedding was outdoors, under a tent, at Saxe Point Park and they were surrounded by friends and family bursting with pride. It was unfortunately fairly windy and cold (it was probably 15 degrees but felt closer to five) so took shelter at the Delta Ocean Point for pictures and we were able to use the large three-storey window in their lobby as a backdrop. Skip is an engineer with the navy and they had their party at the Naval Base's Ward Room in Esquimalt, which has the absolute best views of the Olympic Peninusla. There were plenty of revelers and we had so much fun on the dance floor with everyone. Eunice Montenegro, who used to co-own FunkyTown Photography before she moved to the east coast, teamed up with me for this wedding. I was excited to partner with one of my favorite photogrpahers and best friends. Skip & Traci, congratulations! You were both stunning and we loved working with you!

Julie & Jay's Wedding at the Chateau Cartier in Gatineau, Quebec

Julie & Jay are surrounded by people who care about them very much and this wedding was all about that love. From the moment you meet them you are disarmed by their friendliness and I think the photos show how much fun they are. Their wedding was set outdoors at the Chateau Cartier in Gatineau, Quebec (right across the river from Ottawa). All of the details were impeccable and exquisitely chosen. For portraits, we found a great spot at the Ottawa River, around the corner from the hotel with fantastic light and lots of wildflowers and trees. I am a complete sucker for tear jerkers and the speeches got me to the point where I was grateful for auto focus because I couldn't see through the view finder for tears. I brought along the talented Robin Gartner as a second photographer and I am so excited to share some of her shots. Julie & Jay, we had such a great time getting to know you both. You are beautiful inside and out -- congratulations!

Kara & Don's Wedding in Saskatoon & Hawaii - Part 1

When Kara & Don(the first couple to book for 2010!) asked me if I'd be willing to cover both their wedding in Saskatoon, and then a second ceremony & trash the dress in Maui, Hawaii, my answer was "Yes! Yes! Yes!" I've been looking forward to this wedding for over a year and a half and it didn't disappoint. Kara is also a wedding photographer (a very talented one) and she and Don were so easy to work with plus they were a ton of fun. These two love the beach, but with such a tight-knit group of well-wishers back home, they wanted to have a ceremony for their family in Saskatoon followed by a second private ceremony at Makena Beach in Maui, Hawaii. Adventure-seekers at heart, they braved an early morning (picking me up at 3am) for a drive up to the Haleakala volcano for sunrise. It was frigid cold but Kara & Don looked awesome standing 3,000 metres above sea level, high over the clouds of Maui. In contrast to Saskatoon, Maui was in drought this summer and it made for some interesting landscapes. We stopped everywhere for pictures and I loved the desert-like hills. So much variety!

I just loved the dry landscapes, including this one at the volcano and the barren hills Kara & Don found near Lahaina.

Kara & Don's Wedding in Saskatoon & Maui, Hawaii - Part 2

Kara & Don were so expressive and grateful for all the love they have in their lives and they had everyone - including me - verklempt throughout the day. Don's face when Kara was walking up the aisle says it all. I felt an instant connection with everyone and we became fast friends, plus I was treated to the famous Saskatchewan hospitality by some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Saskatoon has experienced record rain this year and it's caused a lot of flooding and problems for residents. However, Kara & Don were given a perfect, sunny day for their ceremony. Everything went like clockwork and, since Kara is a wedding photographer herself, she knew to pad extra time in case of hair or makeup emergencies... plus lots of time for portraits between the ceremony & reception.

Kara & Don's Wedding in Saskatoon & Hawaii - Part 3 - Sakatoon Portraits

Since Kara is a wedding photographer, she knew to plan lots of time to take photos around Saskatoon (almost four hours between the ceremony & reception). We were able to take photos at the University of Saskatchewan, the river and a beautiful fallow field outside of town. And it was awesome that a fellow wedding photographer would know that it would be perfect light just before the reception. It was a perfect day.

Julie & Ryan's Wedding in Campbell River

I have to create an award to give to Julie & Ryan because seriously... they take the prize for bravery. Some reasons? How about the fact that on their wedding day they walked along a sheer cliff next to one of the largest waterfalls in B.C., climbed into the thick of the rainforest along with the entire wedding party for portraits, AND they got married on one of the stickiest, hottest days of the year and never once complained! They allowed lots of time for us to work on portraits between the ceremony & reception and that meant we could give them lots of variety (we love that!) Georgie & I had so much fun with these guys! Congratulations Julie & Ryan!!

Sneak Peek - Emma & Rob's Wedding at the Bear Mountain Resort in Victoria

When I met up with Emma & Rob and their families at the rehearsal I could tell this wedding was going to be a lot of fun and it definitely was. You can't spend even a minute in their company without some laughter. Best of all, you could see that this couple are great friends with each other as well as being completely in love. Emma's family is from Scotland and there were lots of really nice Scottish touches (check out the slideshow for a picture of her bouquet treatment and some kilt socks. LOL). The wedding was at the Bear Mountain Resort and we were treated to a gorgeous afternoon for photos at the 19th hole (there really is one here!). It was great to have the area to ourselves and not worry about getting out of the way of players. We were also permitted to take photos down in the wine cellar - one of the neatest locations for wedding photography I've ever seen. Emma & Rob, congratulations - you are rock stars!!

Andrea & Ben's Goldstream Park Wedding - The Slide Show

I was so happy for my friend Andrea when she announced she was getting married to her soul mate Ben this year. Andrea is the sweetest, most tender-hearted person ever and she smiles ear-to-ear when she talks to you. With his patient and kind disposition, Ben is a perfect match for her and I love that he wears his emotions on his sleeve. They chose Goldstream Park for their ceremony & portraits, which was an amazing backdrop for these two nature lovers. The next day almost 200 friends and family gathered at the Luxton Hall for an event that featured eight musical acts, including Andrea's father in the main band "Bendria and Lubbes" (my hubby Cary was the keyboardist for a few of the acts). Andrea & Ben, I'm so happy for you guys! Congratulations!

Andrea and her sister would spend summers camping in the park and they would often play in this stream, talking and dreaming about who they might marry. How cool is that?? :)
